Nerdy Giraffes, Mice And Birds (Oh My!)

I’ve actually taken a bit of a break lately from painting pendants. Painting so small is hard on the eyes.. not that painting tiny little ACEOs is a whole lot better, but it’s probably a step up – and a step away from going cross-eyed.

A cute giraffe was next on my list. I don’t think I’ve ever painted a giraffe before… actually I think I did once in high school, but er, that sort of feels like ages ago.  This guy was fun.. October was definitely my Where’s Waldo month, and I knew one of my nerdy animals would definitely be inspired by dear Waldo.

Actually, the Nerdy/Cute Chipmunk was initially inspired by Waldo.. which is kind of funny because people naturally thought he was inspired by Simon from Alvin and the Chipmunks even though he really wasn’t.

But I thought the giraffe would be a fun fit for Waldo. I would really love to see a giraffe take on the role of the hard-to-find fellow. I think this giraffe could surprise everyone with how well he could really play hide and seek (:

The beach mouse was another critter that I wanted to paint. Have you ever seen a beach mouse? If you haven’t, well you need to look them up! They’re super cute. I’ll wait here while you do.

*twiddles thumbs*

So gosh, are they not gosh darn amazingly cute? I don’t know if I did the cuteness justice but I tried.

One of my most recent paintings was this fluffy critter – the Victoria Crowned Pigeon. I was ecstatic when I started this bird because well, how gorgeous are they! Originally this pigeon was going to look a little more nerdy with little glasses with a chain dangling from them, but I ended up giving the bird a lovely pair of steampunk style goggles instead to go with the fun, rough background.

This guy was worth the effort.. I’m totally digging that hairdo.

Next on my list.. bears and snakes. (oh my?!)

About Jo @ Rainbow of Crazy

My username came from that very random day several years ago when I was told that I was a "walking rainbow of crazy... twinkling with the spectrum of a thousand different colours." That name makes me smile to this day and will always remain with me!
